Installing NV2
A Windows style
installation process gives you control over the installation
folder, and whether NV2 should be installed for all Windows
users or just the current Windows user. The installation
will add NewViews to your Start Programs menu as well.
The downloaded New Views installation file will have a name
like nv2.10.3.20080421-win32-ix86.exe. The exact name will
vary as the version changes. The size is approximately
100MB.
From your Windows Desktop, go to the location of the downloaded NV2 program file.
Position on the NewViews installation file in a Windows Explorer. This installation program will be found in the folder where you downloaded it. It has a name like nv2.xx.x.xxxxxxxx-win32-ix86.exe. The exact name will differ depending on the version downloaded.
Press
SHIFT and hold it while you right-click
the installation file.
THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR WINDOWS VISTA USERS.
If installing on
Windows XP, a command menu will pop up.
If installing on Windows Vista, a command menu will pop up
as shown below.

Click
Run as..., Run as administrator or Run As Other User.
The menu item will be Run as... on Windows XP, Run as
administrator on Windows Vista, or Run As Other User on
other Windows versions. If the Run As command is disabled
contact your organization's IT department. Otherwise a
Windows dialog will pop up.
On Windows Vista the installation should now continue. Go
to Click OK.
On
Windows XP click The following user: radio button.
A Windows dialog pops up asking "Which user account do you
want to use to run this
program?". Below it are radio
buttons. Click on The following user:.
Select
Administrator from the drop-down list of users. If
administrator doesn't appear in the drop-down list, type it
in.
Enter
the administrator password.
You may have to get the administrator password from your IT
department, or have your IT department perform the
installation.
Enter
the Domain:, if any.
If Domain: appears you also have to specify it. Consult your
IT department for assistance.
Click
OK.
The installation program should run under the
administrator user.
The installation process will start automatically in a few seconds.

When the installation
is run, it will search for an existing NV2 installation, and
failing that, an installation of DOS NewViews (NV1). If one
is found, it will be offered as the default folder during
the installation, but it can be changed to any folder of
your choosing.
NOTE: Installing NV2 in the same folder as
NV1 will not affect NV1 in any way; no NV1 files are deleted
or overwritten. Both versions of NewViews can be run from
the same folder with no conflicts.
But I recommend that you install NV2 on
your C drive in a folder named NV2 as shown below

After the installation is finished, click on Exit.
The following item is added to your Start, Programs menu:
